I remember the interview with Allen Iverson. I understood what he was saying but at the same time, I understood the coach as well.

Let’s talk about practice. Some people love to do it and think it makes you better and some people hate and thinks it is a waste of time. Whatever your view on practice, it must be done.

I definitely know about practice. Being an athlete all my childhood, I probably did more than my fare share of it. From baseball to track to bowling, my year consisted of practice before games and practice after games. Now, sports are not the only thing we practice. As children we do not understand that chores are a form of practice. It helps us transition into adulthood and that fact that we will not always have someone else to do everything for us. So we need to learn how to properly wash dishes and clothes. Take the garbage out. Sweep steps…you get the point.

We, as athletes, practice all the time. From hitting, throwing, running, sliding, jumping and the list goes on and on. But…..WHY????

Why do we practice and practice sooo much? We know and hopefully understand that there is no such thing as perfect. So why? Is it to be perfect in a sports, business or life situation? But there is no such thing as perfect, right?

So, maybe we want to have more good times than bad. Ok, I can love with that. Is that it though? It has to be more than that.

We practice to make us better than we were prior to us practicing. Let’s go with that. So, as entrepreneurs, should we not practice as well? How do we practice that??? Maybe we don’t need to watch t.v tonight, we can work on our business instead. That takes practice to train yourself to do that. We can look at ourselves in the mirror and practice closing a deal. It won’t happen correctly on the first try, so repetition is the key.

Repetition is one of the keys to success. Just like we practiced washing dishes as children. We practiced at our respective sports, we need to practice being entrepreneurs just the same way. We have to have that same passion, drive and dedication.
